Synthesis gas, often called "syngas," refers to a mixture of gases produced by combining carbon-containing substances, such as coal or natural gas, with steam or oxygen. It is mainly composed of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Syngas can be used as a fuel or as a precursor to produce various chemicals, like methanol or ammonia, through further chemical processes.
